Devon from Delaware

This is Devon, from Delaware.  He is currently inspecting the studio area for anything that may be considered dangerous.  So far, he's found nothing.

His suit and other accessories were found in the baby department at Goodwill.  I never realized we dress our little boys, like little men.  He does look rather dapper today, don't you think?

Devon admits to being  "a little soft in the head".  That explains a lot.  He stands about 34" tall, and is made of muslin fabric.  His facial features are felt, and his ginger hair is a wonderful piece of wool felt.

He is currently resting in the guest room, and reading all of my altered books.  He seems quite amused, because I hear him chuckle from time to time.

Thanks for stopping in today!    <3   Audrey

Plant Painting

In the north corner of my house, there is a place that gets very little sunlight.  To remedy the situation I decided to paint a picture of a plant to add to my little table.  No watering.

Keep it simple, my dear family and friends.          !(*.*)!   Audrey

Ernest the Elephant

Hello!!    This is Ernest the Elephant.   I found a lovely soft wool sweater at Goodwill, and washed it and dried...cutting and stitching it..Ernest arrived.  He is a softy, and quite squishable.

He told me that he is not affiliated with any political party.

He loves poetry, peanuts and paddle ping pong.

Happy Monday, dear Family and Friends!     Smile On!   Audrey

Painting Still Life Pitcher and Tea Pots

I started painting again.  Since retirement I haven't ventured into the paint world...but the pitcher that my friend Marie painted, inspired me to attempt this still life.

I was quite pleased with the end result, and did a few more still life paintings of some tea pots we purchased over the years.

This was a fun time.  Good to hold the brush and push the paint around once again.  This past week, I've since put the paints away, and started on some soft character dolls.  Life is good in the studio!!

Karok Quilting Project

Hello!   I started a wall hanging using the "karok" technique, and it was so fun doing the hand stitching, I decided to make more panels like the one above.

I then took the three panels and placed them together like this.....

It measures about 17" x 25", all hand sewn.  It adds a bright spot to my studio!

Thanks for stopping by.   May you have happy thoughts as we all head into
                the merry month of December.

Nigel sends his greetings, but refused to be photographed, as he has gained a substantial amount of weight, due to the over indulging he did on Thanksgiving...he loves that bird!

Army Coat Project

A work in process, an old Army coat, a pair of scissors, and my cat, Buster, waiting to see what all the fuss is about.

A few cuts, and then more cuts, trimming and.......

lining and labels, along with buttons.

What is this fabulous old wool coat going to evolve into?   At this point I have no idea...the possibilities are endless.  So, I washed it all, folded it and stashed it on the shelf for now.

Here it is all clean and ready for transformation.   Wish me luck.

I am going to be working in the studio, and not blogging as much.  Once a week, maybe for a while.  I was able to finish 3 paintings, one wall hanging, and a pretty batik table runner this past time taken to blog.     Hope you are doing well, and enjoying the days as they come and go!

Refrigerator Art Extravaganza!!

Once upon a time, a very long time ago, I was given some cast off magnet calendars.  They sat in the studio, in a cupboard.  One day, I pulled them out, and started to cut the magnets into a leaf form.  Organic, delightful leaves.  It was a good day.  Then, I headed to the kitchen (not to cook!) but, to create a display on the frig.  Refrigerator fun!

A magical day of Art Play!

I hope your day is magical, too!!     Smile On!       (*.*)

Quilted Blue Dress

I've been in the studio sewing up some different projects, the last couple of weeks.  This one is a wall hanging project, it measures about 31" x 37".   I used a dress I had made for Maggie, my daughter, when she was about 2 years old.  That was back in 1977.  I embroidered on it, also.

The embroidered quote is something I made back in 1975, and came across it again in storage.  I thought it would work nicely on this piece, and let it out, to once again see day light.

It brings back very good memories of my happy little curly headed brown eyed daughter!!   In the spring I will display it in the back porch along with all the "spring-like" things, I have collected.

Thanks for stopping by today!!   Smile On!   (*.*)

Batik Sewing Kit

This is a sewing kit I made from some scraps of Batik squares I had left over from the quilt project I blogged about a while ago.  Such pretty material I just knew it had to BE something.

I purchased a pair of those folding scissors, and made a nice little needle holder for it, too!
Add a spool of thread and I am ready for Quilt Guild.   Well, not today...I am off to the studio to see what adventures await for me there!

Rusty Fabric Art

Good Morning!  This is a quilted piece of muslin that I stained with scraps of metal.  I placed the metal on the fabric, and saturated it with water and vinegar. Using some discarded bricks I weighed the fabric down and let it sit for 24 hours.  There was enough fabric to do another one as well.

On this one I cut and pieced it together, and added quite alot of stitching to create some textured affects to the fabric.  Also the angles of the piece added a nice touch to the composition of it.

They are both accented with a different fabric for the binding.  The pieces pull the viewer in to get a closer look at the surface of them.  Absolutely yummy colors were accomplished using that old rusty metal, and a splash of vinegar.

Hope you Wednesday is a Wonder!!      (*.*)

Cross Stitch Project Finished! it is...done.   The re purposed tablecloth measures about 24" x 36", not including the frame.

I've decided to call it "The Russian Tea"....sounds rather exotic, don't you think?   Hope your Monday is going well.  I am going to have a hot cup of tea, sometime today.  And venture into some more art thoughts and see where they take me.

Halloween Greetings!!

                                                      Happy spooky!!

Do you remember your favorite costume?  That's me in the middle with my two brothers.  All dressed up in our homemade costumes.  I can still remember the feel of that little lamb made out of cardboard and cotton balls....way back in 1956.   Whoa...time flies when you're having fun!!
May your day be filled with fun, and candy....sweets to the sweets!!    (*.*)

Repurposed Tablecloth of Cross Stitich

Hello!!   I've been in the studio the last couple of days working and haven't posted a blog.  This photo is of a embroidered and crocheted tablecloth I found at a garage sale for less then a dollar.  The cloth part was in a bad state.  Holes and beyond repair, but there was all this delicious hand work on it, and only one place where that was beyond help.

Taking it apart and saving all those lovely parts, I then rearranged them into a wall art.  Hand stitiching it on to a piece of pellon, covered in a rough muslin.  That created a nice contrast between the background and the embroidered work.

There was enough pieces to make several little hearts, as well as the wall hanging.  The next few photos will show you the works in progress.

This is the wall art, laid out but not stitched into place, yet. And the hearts turned out rather sweet, and should make nice little gifts of love, someday.

Hope your day is filled with lot'za...Love!

Star Man Halloween Costume

This is a quilted wall hanging I made.  I used my son's Halloween costume he wore in 2nd grade.  The mask is made from nylons and batting.  The costume was a metallic ladies dress I found at a second hand shop, and cut to make his little space uniform.  The plastic dangles are re purposed from an old lamp.  And the decorative insignia was made using pellon and black marker.
Ray wore this in October of 1984, and I made it into this piece in July of 1992.  It measures about 25" x 32".  I bring it out, with the rest of the Halloween decor, and hang it up in the porch.

Batik Quilt

This is one colorful quilt top I made.  I used a "jelly roll" of batik fabrics.  The colors and patterns are....delicious!!   I ended up with a few scraps and sewed those together as ended up in the unfinished file, but the colors will call me again.  Here is a photo of the complete piece.

Hope your weekend is a restful retreat as it draws near.  I am off to the studio where I currently have four projects on the awaits!!

Red Crow Platter

Good Morning!!   Isn't this a beauty??   We purchased this from two of our friends.  Kim Losse and Marie Rhodes.  This platter is 17 1/2" across.  And hand painted by Marie.  The colors go very well with the yellow in the dining room.  The yellow looks cheerful even on a cloudy day, and Ed and I do appreciate crows and their loud, camaraderie.  This platter depicts that all very well!

Crocheted Masks in Color

Welcome back!   Here is the last of the crocheted wall hanging masks.  The two top ones are small, compared to the other one.  I am not to pleased with the photo of the bottom one.  Took it several times and it still came out looking rather harsh.  I am a life long learner, regarding many things!
Another Art Adventure has been meandering through my thoughts the last couple days, and there is a lovely rain today....that makes a good studio day!

Crocheted Masks in Gray

Crocheted masks in various shades of grays, black, and cream.  This was a fun and challenging project to make.  Each one measures about 12" to 13" long, and 7" to 10" wide.  I wanted to see what I could do with basic colors, and let the stitches bring into it an interesting texture.
A good challenge, and then I went into colors, which I will share on another post!

A good day to you!  And, thanks for stopping in!    (*.*)   Audrey

Crocheted Mask in Red & Yellow

Hello!!   I have discovered this wonderful practice of "free-form" crochet.  It's been around since the early 1970's.  What it is, is creating a form or piece using crochet and just doing what ever!!
So....I decided to try my hand at crocheting some masks.  Well, they are really wall art.  Not able to be worn really.
This mask is about 12" x 12" and juts from the wall about 3 1/2".  A fun addition to the experience of crochet.

Run free, and always keep the crochet hook close at hand!!!!

Three String Music Box in Poplar

Music Box!   This little beauty was made using Poplar.  Ed built it using this wood that has this lovely deep green tinge to it.  The fret board is made out of maple.  And he tuned it to a DAD.

The back of it is all natural, and is quite beautiful as well.  He didn't stain it at all, but used a subtle satin sealer on it, which really enhanced the lines in it.   I've lost count as to how many music boxes he has built so far...time to do an inventory!!
Smile On, you really have nothing better to do!!   ; )
