The Artz Toys Museum

Welcome to the Museum!!   I have this little building on our property.  Ed built it for me back in 2010.  I've had a great deal of fun since then putting up shows, rearranging my art work, displays of what ever was currently in my head.  This spring I decided to bring out some toys I have saved from my childhood.  And, some of the toys I have made over the years.  I love toys.  I walk into this little building and I find.....JOY!
So..this week, we will do a tour of my museum...come on in!

This is a shelf of all my childhood toys.  There is Roxanne, on the left.  A teddy bear in soft blue, turns out it's a cat...I old I don't even remember it's name any more.  So I gave it a new name, "Teddy the Cat."  The fabric doll in a blue suit was a gift from my Grandmother.  I washed her and restuffed her, as her stuffing was a very old cotton batting.  There's Barbie and her beau Ken, along with Skipper.  Penny Bright in the red dress, sitting down.  And, of course "Chatty Brother" and his little sister.  Their speaking days are truly over, as the pull strings no longer work.
There are several treasures on this shelf, I won't go into their history.  But, what good memories I have of their companionship, in years past.

May you find joy today.....<3.....Happy B-Day, Hiedi!!!

Gardening with Nigel

A beautiful day to do some gardening here in Wisconsin.   Clear blue skies with just a smattering of clouds to make it interesting, and 72 on the temp!   Early start and a great deal accomplished.  Nigel insisted on playing outside as well.

Sunshine on Monday

Good Day, My Family and Friends!!   Wandering through my photos, I considered what to write in this blog.  I decided to share a little sunshine.  As I wrote in a blog before, I drew about 60 of these images, in my journal.
"You are my Sunshine, my (one of sixty) Sunshine's, you make me happy, when skies are gray."

Bird :) House

I found these paper mache eggs and cones at a local craft store.  The 5" x 5" canvas is one of three, I picked up at Wally World, one day.  At the time of the purchases, on different days...I had no ideas as to what these little bits of stuff could be.  I just needed to buy some "stuff" to possibly play with, some day. So the other day while working in the studio, I came across these bits, and started to put them together.

And there it is, a bird on a house.  "Bird : ) House."  It's hanging up on the bulletin board I have in the studio, next to the miniature banjo, and crocheted rose.  The sign below it comes from a breakfast cereal box.              "Smile" is the sign today, people!    :)

The Real Identity of Goldilocks!

Everyone thinks they know the story about Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  Here to enlighten you is the real Goldilocks.  She has her side to tell.

"I have been in trouble, for breaking and entering.  And my real name is Franzee, not Goldilocks!  I've done my time, and now I want a new start, a new story....ok?"

"I think I am entitled to a new start, a new story, a new beginning.  Stupid bears shouldn't have left the door unlocked.  And, that fantastic porridge, with just a touch of cinnamon.....the smell, the was just tooooo...much!!!"

"Is that cinnamon I smell?  Are your doors locked?"

Franzee is a puppet, she's about 24" tall.  I made her out of a soft warm fleece, and found the dress and cute little shoes at Goodwill.  The socks are the little girlie kind with lace.

Martin the Martian

Martin the Martian, quickly scrambled to get away from the laboratory.  Desperately seeking a way to get back to his home planet, he paused momentarily to have his photo taken.

He always was taken in by the local paparazzi.  It was the cameras that really intrigued the little blue guy from Mars.   The humans were ok, but just a tiny bit frightening, too.

Martin quickly headed into the forest, avoiding the security guards, as the camera people caused a slight diversion to let the little guy escape.

Martin the Martian, is a puppet, made out of a soft blue fabric, with glass eyes, found in the button box.  His glowing teeth are made of white and silver beads.  And those adorable shoes are from a stash of doll shoes I found at an antique shop.  His little lab gown is a find in the infant department, at Wally World.
He stands about 14", and is just a whole lotta' fun to play with!

                                               Hope you have an extra-special-kind-of-day!!

Buffalo Quilted Wallhanging

Good Morning!  The song, "Home Home on the Range" is meandering through my mind.  So, I decided to post this photo of a quilted wallhanging I did many years ago.  The buffalo is an incredible animal, majestic, and a certain serenity about them.  I picked some of my favorite colors, at the time, and I used my sewing machine to quilt it.

Where seldom is heard a discouraging word, and the clouds......don't hang around much today.

                          Happy Trails, My Friends!!

Nigel and Lola the Elephant

Nigel and Lolita the Elephant decided to try a little exploring in the front yard today.

ME IN AFRICA........ON A SAFARI....GIDDY-UP!!!!!!!!!!

I am not sure that's the correct way to get an elephant to move, Nigel.

She's not going anywhere soon Nigel, she's made of paper mach, remember?   She is a life size replica of a baby elephant, I made several years ago.  The question is, are you having fun, Nigel?

Ok, it is all about having fun, Nigel.  Carry on, good monster.

Two Sisters "Granny Graffiti" Styled

Two old sister chairs sitting in the sun....wondering what to do on a Tuesday afternoon.

They found the crocheted "Granny Graffiti" stash, and decided to have a go!

Oh-la-la!!!   Such a fun time the sisters had, all dressed up and a photo-op!

Hey, is that pillow reversible?    Sure is.  A gaudy hippy-vintage kinda' look.

                                                            Party On, People!!

Good Morning Sunshine!

One just isn't enough on some days!!

In fact, in my art journal I drew over 60 images of the sun, with all different faces.  This project was done in the winter time!  That explains the multiple examples, desperate for sunshine, I guess.  Have a sunny day!

Summer Holiday Greetings!

I altered this old photo.

                                                               Happy 4th of July!

I found a mini Raggedy Ann doll at Goodwill the other day.  I thought she would look cute out in the back porch with the rest of my summer decorations.  Ah, I just realized the bug spray is in this photo, always attempting to avoid the bug population around here, and it's convenient to have it at the back door!

The back porch is really fun to decorate, found most of these old glass bottles behind the machine shed on our property.  Love the amber ones, and the clear glass ones, too.  That's a mini milk bottle with the flag in it.  My Mom said she drank from bottles like that when she was a little girl.  That would have been back in the early 1920's.

I finished this wall hanging the other day.  I haven't quilted in a long time, perfection is not in my vocabulary, and definitely not when it comes to quilting.  The main thing is, I have alot of FUN!

Happy Summer, People!!   A special birthday greetings to Andie Rose today, too!

                                                              (*-*)  Smile On!

Crow Shade Strikes Again!

I ventured into the garden and decided it was a perfect place to do a little  "Granny Graffiti".  The weather was perfect, cool with a warm breeze, on a more then fine day, in June.

Now that was a fun time!  It's like a temporary tattoo, only lasts as long as I want it to, and then, quietly picked up, before the rains come rolling in.  Doilies saved for another adventure.

The Hostas' are doing great this year, and the rusted metal work adds a nice touch.  It's good to have a metal man in the work shop, thanks Ed!

Think about creating some graffiti of your own.  Tiny bits of paper surrounding your computer, cascading down to the floor and into the hall.  People may consider you a little weird, but how fun is that?

    Crow Shade, signing off!   ;)

Granny Graffiti

OK, I found a new art form....well, it's been around since 2004.  Graffiti, granny style.  No, I am not doing anything illegal, but I am having alot of FUN!

In the big wide world it's also called "yarn bombing," or "yarn storm."  Either one sounds abit to ominous for me.  I much prefer the term, "Grandma's Graffiti."  Well, enough talk, let's look at some work I've done so far.

I hit the mail box with a stash of doilies, and I even whipped the ones off the furniture in the living room to use out here, a perfectly delightful project.  And, I even had the opportunity to meet a few neighbor ladies as they ventured by on their morning walks.
Top view of mail box.  I used some vintage potholders, too.

Pure fun, and in broad daylight, too!!  As long as I stay on my property, I figure I am pretty safe.  Also, don't really want to lose any of my doilies....I just may have to do some more of this graffiti stuff!!

Walk on the wild side today, just keep it legal, people.

PS   My graffiti tag is "Crow Shade,"  don't tell anyone....Ha-Ha-Ha!!!!
